With its pivotal location and creative vibe, Clerkenwell is a highly sought-after area by progressive businesses. Commercial spaces vie for attention here, so we designed Panagram to stand out. While paying tribute to the post-modernist architecture, we avoided the ubiquitous industrial trends and created something playful and colourful. Endorsing our confident strategy, the building won the 2022 FX International Interior Design Award for Large Workspace Environments.
The project involved the refurbishment of all office floor plates of the nine-storey building as well as the landscaped outdoor terraces and rear courtyard. Additions included a front portal extension at street level, a dramatic cutaway with a timber staircase and large ficus tree on the ground floor, bike storage and gym-style shower facilities. Innovative design touches included an informal desk-free and planted reception space, a new heat recovery system, curtain screens that create soft divisions, and a bespoke tenant app in line with Panagram’s ‘smart building’ status. All of which ensured the building achieved an EPC A rating, Platinum Cycling Score and Wired Score Gold.
